"My role within Viewpoint" - A word from a Viewpoint interviewer
My name is Jane and I have been an interviewer for the Viewpoint Survey since it started in 2008. Before this, I was a Samaritan for many years. I really enjoy doing this work for the project as research findings are one way of bringing about improvements for service users.
I know how hard it can be to talk about mental health issues as I’m a service user myself and have been, on and off, for many years, so I’m fully aware of some of the difficulties you may be currently experiencing. Most of the interviewers are either service users or carers and have first-hand experience of the NHS mental health systems.
We’ve undergone a full course of training, which is regularly updated and like to think we carry out our part of the interview process in a caring and supportive manner: we do try to make you feel as comfortable as possible.
If you are unsure whether or not to take part, I’d just like to say that nearly everyone I’ve interviewed has found it a positive, enjoyable experience, and even though initially they may have been a little apprehensive, they’re glad they took part. I do hope you will feel able to join us in this very worthwhile piece of research.
